We made it to Bergen! We didn't have any troubles with our flights, which was really nice. On the longest flight to Amsterdam, we may have sat next to Dustin Hoffman. It probably wasn't him, but he looked exactly like him! I dropped part of my breakfast on him and he (famous or not) was very nice about it.
We arrived Tuesday morning very tired, but excited. My host at the University met us at the airport and gave us a walking tour as soon as we arrived showing us how to use the bus, how to get to Ikea (so we could buy bedding), grocery stores, the department and my office, and anything we might possibly need while we're here. The city is beautiful! It was nice and sunny when we arrived, so we got to see the city at its best.
First, we semi-mastered the bus system and went to Ikea to buy bedding and towels. We had to figure out the washing machine in our apartment, since none of the symbols or labels make sense. We thought it was a washer and dryer in one, but I don't think it is (if it is, I seriously cannot figure out how to get to the dryer part). We had to let everything air dry at around midnight before going to bed. Needless to say we were exhausted and not at our best.
Next up: office and apartment tour.
